Paul Joseph “Bogie” Biel

Paul Joseph “Bogie” Biel, 62, of Old Kane Rd., Wilcox, died unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, during the course of one of his favorite hobbies.
He was born Dec. 13, 1947, in Ridgway, son Olga (Damier) Biel of Wilcox, and the late Vincent Biel.
On Oct. 14, 1972, he married Donna Zawatski, who survives.

Walter C. "Charlie" Neilson

Walter C. "Charlie" Neilson, age 71, of 424 Water Street Ext., Johnsonburg, formerly of Horner Road, Wilcox, died Saturday morning, Nov. 27, 2010, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh following an illness of several days.
He was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Johnsonburg, son of Walter and Mary Heindl Neilson. He married Mary Detsch in 1981; she died May 21, 1986.
Formerly of Wilcox, he attended Johnsonburg schools, resided in Johnsonburg for the past five years and was a member of Holy Rosary Church.

Frank A. Polaski, 91, of the Lutheran Home in Kane and formerly of 161 East Ave., Johnsonburg, died on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 10, 1919 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Peter J. and Stella Macijiwska Polaski.
He married Mary E. Roebuck on October 11, 1945 in Holy Cross Church in Rasselas. She preceded him in death on April 17, 2008.

Margaret H. "Mag" Pauline

Margaret H. "Mag" Pauline, 69, of 936 Fern Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 at the Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Aug. 11, 1941, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Raymond and Gertrude Simbeck Hannibal. On June 23, 1962, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married John R. "Jack" Pauline, who survives.

Sestak tips hat to voters

Joe Sestak, U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 7th congressional district, passed through Elk County yesterday morning and partook in an informal gathering at the American Legion along the 300 block of Main Street in Ridgway.
Serving as a U.S. Representative since 2007, the 2010 Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania's U.S. Senate seat lost a close election to Republican Pat Toomey.

Jason Lee Glynn

Jason Lee Glynn, 32, of Highland, passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, as the result of an automobile accident. He was born March 1, 1978 in Rapid City, S.D., the son of Beth Glynn. On Feb. 14, 2009, he married Norene Reinard, she survives. He had resided in Highland for seven years. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, he had resided in Kadoka, S.D. Jason was a genuine cowboy. He was co/founder of the Allegheny Outriders Horse Club. He and Norene were owners/operators of N.J. Horse Training and he was also employed by Severance Enterprises of Kane.

Christine M. Schloder, 43, of 2926 Maple Lane, Wilcox, died on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 following a brief illness.
She was born July 21, 1967 in St. Marys, a daughter of Thomas Schloder and Diane Arnold Schloder, both of St. Marys, who survive.

Sharon E. Jerko

Sharon E. Jerko, 79, of 135 Laurel Lane, Kersey, died Sunday morning, Nov. 21, 2010 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 15, 1931 in Hallton, daughter of the late George and Geraldine Dobson Zimmerman.
On Aug. 20, 1955, in St. Leo's Church, Ridgway, she married George R. Jerko, who survives.

Mary Rose Sharkey

Mary Rose Sharkey, 82, of 570 North Michael St., St. Marys, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 16, 1928 in Philadelphia, daughter of the late David W. O’Brien, MD, and Mary Rose Magee O’Brien. She was the beloved wife of Dennis A. Sharkey Jr., MD, who survives. They were married June 25, 1955 in Waynesboro, Va.

District volleyball all-stars announced

The All-District volleyball all-star teams were announced for District 9.
The teams were selected by the PAVB Coaches Association.
Johnsonburg had two players make the teams. Cody Anderson was named as first-team All-District and Justis Myers made third-team All-District.
The first-team all-stars consist of Anderson, Brooke Bailey of Clarion, Lexie Meholic of Elk County Catholic, Taylor Frank of Elk County Catholic, Brittany Hanlon of Clarion and Dani Fleeger of Clarion. The MVP was Tiffany Smathers of Clarion.
