William Leonard (Len) Anderson, age 89, of Millcreek, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Erie VA Medical Center. Len was born in Ridgway, Pa. on February 26, 1921 a son of the late Anders G. and Hulda Strom Anderson. He was a 1940 graduate of Ridgway High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a crew chief on the B-17 and completed his service in 1946 as a Staff Sergeant.
Joseph M. Redmond Jr., 30, of Kaul Avenue, St. Marys, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at his home.
He was born Feb. 5, 1980 in Ridgway, the son of Joseph M. Redmond Sr. of Wilcox and Kimberly (Erickson) Himes and her husband, Glenn Himes of Altoona, who survive.
Joseph lived most of his life in Johnsonburg except for the past year, when he lived in St. Marys. He attended Johnsonburg High School and worked at GKN of Emporium. He was a Catholic by faith.
He was a member of Wilcox Sportsmenâ€™s Club.Â He enjoyed playing poker and loved animals, especially the family dogs.
Stella E. Geyer, age 90, of 122 Skyline Dr., Kersey, died early Monday morning, Oct. 18, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
Daniel J. Warner, age 54, of 101 North Mill Ave., Ridgway, died Monday afternoon in Ridgway Township. He was born Feb. 27, 1956 in Meadville son of the late James V. and Joan E. (Kennedy) Warner. He had resided in Ridgway for most of his life and was Catholic by faith. He was a 1974 graduate of the Ridgway High School. He was a member of the American Legion Post #208 and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam era. He had been employed by Caldwell Corp. for 15 years.
Joseph O. Chittester, age 79, of 19 Elk Ave., Ridgway, died Tuesday morning at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness. He was born March 17, 1931 in James City, son of the late Merle and Ann (Ilconich) Chittester. He married Ida F. Crate on June 18, 1955, she survives. He was a graduate of the Kane High School. He was Catholic by faith and a member of the American Legion Post #208. He had served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed by CG for 30 years.
Lenne A. Logan, most recently a resident of St. Paul Homes and Avalon Springs and a resident of Greenville for over 60 years, died on Oct. 1, 2010.
Born on March 11, 1919, in Ridgway, she was preceded in death by her parents, George and Emma Greiner, sisters Madelynn and Ernestine, brothers Frederic and Paul, all of Rigdway. Lenne and her brother Paul were graduates of Thiel College.
Mary S. Frantz, age 58, formerly of 203 West Main St. Ridgway died Friday morning at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a lengthy illness. She was born Oct. 9, 1951 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Elmer D. and Mary H. (Josephson) Knipple. She had resided in Ridgway for the last 26 years and was a member of the Ridgway Church of the Nazarene. She had been employed by the Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility for six years.
Dr. George Albert Rouse, 85, of 1519 Hill St., Ridgway, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at DuBois Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 27, 1925, in Monongahela, son of the late George and Alma Tucker Rouse. In 1955, he married Joan Burglund, who survives. â€¨Dr. Rouse had lived in Ridgway for 45 years. He graduated from Monongahela High School, Class of 1942. He joined the U.S. Navy Air Corp in 1943 and served on the Randolph and Kearsarge aircraft carriers. He attended Pittsburgh University and graduated from the Pitt Dental School in 1953.
Richard E. â€śDickâ€ť McAninch, 74, of Grove St., Johnsonburg, and recently of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, died on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Howard Sr. and Goldie (Updyke) McAninch.
He was a lifelong resident of Johnsonburg and graduated from Johnsonburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962. He retired from the Johnsonburg Paper Mill in 1997, where he worked in the storeroom. He was a member of the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church and Central Hose Company.
Jack D. Steis, 87, a resident of the DuBois Nursing Home and formerly of 313 Cook Ave., Ridgway, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 at the DuBois Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 12, 1923, in Ridgway, son of the late Walter and Clarabel Brunner Steis.
On April 8, 1948, in the St. Johnâ€™s Lutheran Church in Johnsonburg, he married Ethel Klawuhn, who preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2003.
